GLASS IN FLIGHT 2 showcases larger than-life glass and steel sculptures of butterflies, dragonflies, ants, bees, and other pollinators. Made from hand-cut Dalle de Verre glass, the works glow in the sun and blend naturally into the Arboretum’s gardens, highlighting the beauty and importance of pollinators.

The exhibition continues after dark with sculptures illuminated against the desert night. Visitors have a rare chance to enjoy the Arboretum through golden hour, sunset, and evening, when both the artwork and the landscape take on new dimensions.

About the Artist

Tucson-based Alex Heveri has been an artist her entire life, exploring many media before discovering her passion for sculpture as an undergraduate at Arizona State University.

An installation of neon art captivated her with its glowing, vibrant light, inspiring her to enroll in her first sculpture class, where she learned to weld and fell in love with steel.
After pausing her art to complete law school and build a successful career as a defense attorney, Alex rediscovered her creative spark during a Dalle de Verre glass workshop at a local studio. Cutting into her first thick slab of this richly colored glass was, in her words, electrifying.
Today, Alex calls herself a light artist, combining steel and Dalle de Verre glass
to create bold sculptures that capture and transform light and color. She brings the same discipline and passion to both law and art—qualities evident in the luminous, larger-than-life works that make up her GLASS IN FLIGHT exhibitions.
