Mountain Aloes (Aloe marlothii) are livening up the trails with their fiery blooms.
The mountain aloe is native to South Africa. Characterized by its branched inflorescence, a cluster of flowers on a branch or a system of branches, mountain aloes can have up to 50 flower stalks on one plant.
That many flowers makes these aloes a favorite among pollinators. Pause to watch these plants and you are likely to see bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds.

Did you know the difference between palms and cycads?
Cycads date back to about 280 million years ago (that`s before dinosaurs!). Unlike palms, which attract pollinators with flowers, cycads are gymnosperms that produce seeds in woody cones. Cycads are more closely related to conifers than their look-a-like palms.
Check out these cycads during your next trip to Boyce Thompson Arboretum. Plan your visit at the link in bio.
