The vibrant flowers of the Schotia brachypetala
Going by the names weeping boer-bean, tree fuchsia, African greenheart and African walnut, this desert legume lights up the trails with it`s red blooms. The tree is native to the sub-tropical regions of southern Africa. Similarly to other legumes, its seed pods have historically been used for food.

Puya spathaceae is in bloom!
This Puya is part of the Wallace Garden collection and is blooming for the first time since it was moved to the arboretum 6 years ago.
This species of Puya is characterized by its narrow, tubular flowers, which vary in color from dark green to indigo. Puya can take many years to produce flowers, so seeing them is a special treat.
Check out this rare bloom in the South American Loop in the Wallace Garden.

Tubers of the Gila manroot (Marah gilensis) can weigh up to 50 lbs, while the vine can trail up to 6 feet. The perennial vine is native to the Southwestern U.S. and Mexico.
